Results of 22 Public Hearing for Nong Khaem Waste-to-Energy Project

C&G Environmental Protection (Thailand) has summarized the results of 22 public hearings, which attended by participation from over 1,192 residents living surrounding the Nong Khaem power plant project. Furthermore, the company prepares to open the "Waste Pit" which is one of the system's primary structures for public viewing in May 2026.

C&G Environmental Protection (Thailand) Co., Ltd. conducted 22 small-group public hearing meetings between February 19 and March 1, 2026. The meetings were attended by more than 1,192 participants from communities and villages within a 5-kilometer radius of the project site, covering the districts of Nong Khaem, Bang Khae, and Thawi Watthana, as well as nearby areas in Samut Sakhon and Nakhon Pathom provinces. The purpose was to report the construction progress of the Nong Khaem power plant project phase 2, explain environmental impact prevention and mitigation measures according to the Code of Practice (CoP) report, and provide opportunities for citizens to inquire directly to ensure understanding and transparency in project operations. Additionally, in May 2026, the company plans to allow the public to visit waste pit, which is one of the largest in Bangkok to provide a close-up look at waste management processes and waste-to-energy technology. [1]

The Nong Khaem power plant project has been in operation since 2016 and is recognized as a facility capable of disposing of waste efficiently according to proper principles, reducing landfill reliance, and producing electricity as a byproduct to support the national power grid. It has a disposal capacity of 500 tons per day. [2]

However, Bangkok must manage more than 10,500 tons of waste per day, meaning the current power plant is insufficient for the volume of waste generated in the area. Consequently, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has planned the construction of two additional power plants: the Nong Khaem Waste Power Plant Phase 2 with a capacity of 1,600 tons per day, and the On Nut Power Plant Project with a capacity of 1,600 tons per day. Combining all three plants, the BMA will have a total waste disposal capacity of up to 3,700 tons per day. [3] Construction has already commenced, and they are expected to begin operations by the end of 2026.
