Residents group against WTE plant at Bang Khao, Pattani Province

Representative of opposition group expressed their opposition to a proposed waste-to-energy (WTE) project during a public hearing held by Bang Khao Subdistrict Administrative Organization (SAO)


More than 200 local residents attended the Public Hearing held at office of Bang Khao SAO on August 5th, 2022, and students from a local university gathered and held banners criticizing the project.

Representative of the project explained that the project would generate 6 megawatts of electricity from RDF to be manufactured from more than 400 tons/day of waste to be collected from 55 local administrative organizations. Bang Khao SAO, as the host of this project, held this Public Hearing to receive comments for Feasibility Study, and a plan to invite private party as an investor of the project, including acquisition of land and construction of transfer station, with a contract period of 25 years.


Representative of opposition group pointed out excessed power reserve margin might cause higher power electricity bills for households, and request the government to amend the power purchase agreement in terms of fairness to the public.
