ONEP-Nonthaburi City drives Community Environment & Green Urban Management towards Carbon Neutrality

On August 24, 2023, Urban Environment and Area Planning Division, the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (ONEP) and Nonthaburi City Municipality organized a public hearing for “Draft of Guidelines for Community Environmental and Green Urban Management towards Carbon Neutrality, Nonthaburi City Municipality (2023-2027)” as a part to drive the implementation of “Action Plan for Sustainable Green Urban Management Phase 2 (2023 - 2027)” developed by ONEP at Nonthaburi City Municipality Office. Ms. Pimpan Thanadechakul, Deputy Mayor of Nonthaburi and Mr. Isaraphan Kanjanarekha, Director of the Urban Environment and Area Planning Division delivered addresses and various sectors, such as executives and officials of Nonthaburi City Municipality, representatives from government agencies, communities and local residents, participated in the public hearing. The meeting encouraged Nonthaburi City Municipality to implement the Draft Guidelines and public comments by developing a framework for community environmental management, increasing urban green spaces and to be a model city promoting carbon neutrality with integration in its local development plan.[1]

ONEP has developed the “Action Plan for Sustainable Green Urban Management” as a framework for implementing under "Guidelines for Sustainable Green Urban Management" which approved by the National Environment Board on August 1, 2018, and acknowledged by the Cabinet on November 26, 2018, with the goal of increasing public green spaces, not less than 15 square meters per person within 20 years (2018-2037) in Thailand, in line with national and global policies such as the 20-year national strategy (2018-2037), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), & etc. The Action Plans are divided into 3 phases, i.e., 2018-2022 as the 1st, 2023-2027 as the 2nd and 2028-2037 as the 3rd phase (not yet published).
