TGO Establishes Local Trainer Network to Enhance Carbon Footprint Implementation for Local Governments Nationwide

 

     The Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO) has taken proactive steps to strengthen carbon footprint assessment capacity among local administrative organizations by launching the “Train the Trainer” program. This initiative aims to cultivate skilled personnel at the local level and within educational institutions, specializing in greenhouse gas (GHG) calculation and verification, thereby promoting systematic and sustainable environmental management.

     On March 24, 2026, Mr. Nakorn Trakaviraphat, Director of TGO, presided over the opening of the second practical training workshop for local trainers and advisors at the TK Palace Hotel & Convention in Bangkok. The program is part of TGO’s Fiscal Year 2026 plan to advance carbon footprint assessment for local governments, equipping personnel from municipal offices, the Office of Environmental and Pollution Control, and academic institutions with in-depth knowledge to ensure accurate GHG data collection in line with international standards.

     The workshop combined theoretical and practical training, covering city-level greenhouse gas assessment (City Carbon Footprint), organizational-level carbon footprint calculation (Carbon Footprint for Organization), and guidelines for evaluation and data verification to ensure transparency and credibility. Intensive hands-on sessions were conducted on carbon footprint calculations following standard requirements. Expert trainers from TGO collaborated with the Energy and Ecological Economics Management Research Unit at Chiang Mai University to equip participants with the skills necessary to become effective local trainers and advisors, capable of driving systematic GHG reduction initiatives in their respective areas.
