ERC plans to purchase 300 MW of Electricity from Municipal Solid Waste to Energy Projects in July 20

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) plans to start power procurement process from Municipal Solid Waste to Energy Projects in early July 2022 by purchasing electricity from Very Small Power Producers (VSPPs) and Small Power Producers (SPPs), which the Ministry of Interior has already approved 34 projects with 282.98 MW as Selling Capacity in total under Feed-in Tariff (FiT) with Non-Firm base contract. Contract period will be of 20 years and expecting Scheduled Commercial Operation Date (SCOD) are within 2025-2026.


ERC has announced that projects would offer more than 10 MW, shall submit their proposals to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), while those would offer less that 10 MW shall submit their proposals to Electricity Authority (The Provincial Electricity Authority or PEA and the Metropolitan Electricity Authority or MEA). ERC will announce detail after June 22nd, 2022, when public comment period ended.


Power Purchasing Rate set in the Feed in Tariff (FiT) for Municipal Solid Waste to Energy Projects in 2022 by the National Energy Policy Council resolution (NEPC) on 5 November 5th, 2021, under the Thailand’s Power Development Plan 2018 – 2037, Revision 1 (PDP2018 Rev.1), is as follows.

  • FiT for VSPP with installed capacity ≤ 10 MW is 5.08 baht per unit (FiT Premium 8 years 0.70 baht / unit).

  • FiT for SPP with installed capacity > 10-50 MW is 3.66 baht per unit.
