4 approaches accelerating Thailand to a Low-Carbon City



The Prime Minister participated in the ESG Symposium 2023 [1] on October 5th, 2023 and received a conclusion from brainstorming sessions of a forum titled “the 4 approaches to Accelerate Thailand’s Transition to a Low-Carbon City” aims to achieve Net Zero by 2065, as a proposal to accelerate realization of Low-Carbon City in Thailand, and expressed his confidence on helping the planet by reducing impact on climate change with the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) strategy to be implemented by all sectors.


The proposal submitted to the Prime Minister was prepared by private sector & government sector such as the Office of National Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation Policy Council (NXPO), the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and others, containing 4 main strategies, i.e.,

1. Establishing the “Saraburi Sandbox”, as Thailand’s first low-carbon model city, driving by green industries, sustainable agriculture, and eco-tourism.

2. Encouraging the circular economy as a national agenda, generating economic value from recycled materials. In Thailand, there are Prototyping Model from 3 sectors: packaging, automotive, and construction.

3. Transitioning to renewable and sustainable energy, unlocking limitation, free renewable electricity trade, and developing smart grid.

4. Ensuring no one is left behind by increasing awareness, increasing opportunity to carbon-reducing technologies, and offering environmental financial sources.


The Prime Minister impressed the proposal and emphasized that Thailand focus on 3 main keys i.e., (1) Sustainable development with leaving no one behind, (2) Enhancing human rights & gender equality for everyone, and (3) Encouraging collaboration with all sectors to adapt with climate change in sustainable development.


Thailand is ready to tackle with the environmental crisis and realize Low-Carbon city, improving quality of life for Thai people and economy through collaboration by all sectors.
