Villagers of Khao Maikaeo subdistrict, Prachin Buri Province, oppose the permission of waste processing factory and landfill



Villagers from Khao Maikaeo Subdistrict, Kabin Buri District, Prachin Buri Province, submitted a letter to the Director General of the Department of Industrial Works (DIW) to express their opposition to the establishment of a waste processing factory and landfill in their area.


On March 26, 2024, Mr. Jullapong Thaveesri, Director General of DIW, along with the Deputy Director General, relevant Director and staff, acknowledged the content from people of Khao Maikaeo Subdistrict, Kabin Buri District, Prachin Buri Province. The villagers expressed their concerns about the impact on their community, due to many waste processing factories and landfills have established in the area, of which are located near the headwaters and in flood-prone areas. They said that local people cannot participate in public hearings.


Additionally, the villagers explained the issue of gypsum waste that has been left at closed factories and the increasing of landfills in the area as well as the water problem caused by Industrial waste.


The Director General said that DIW will monitor this issue and require the factory to explain the facts.  Furthermore, DIW will consider for issuing additional regulations to avoid this problem in the future.
