EGAT accelerates the plan to "Reduce Carbon" to set up a battery recycling plant

Updated: Aug 30, 2022

EGAT, in collaborated with the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) study the guidelines for establishing a battery and solar panel recycling plant, including studying the possibility of investing in setting up the first recycling plant in Thailand with the DIW.

The waste from solar panels tend to increase in line with the National Power Development Plan (PDP), while Thailand does not have a complete battery and solar panel recycling plant and export to recycling plants in Belgium, Singapore and Japan for disposal.

DIW used to study the appropriate area for the establishment of a prototype of recycling plant for waste solar panels and batteries by region and selected provinces with much solar panels installed. Amount of Solar Cell System installed by region is as follows;

- Central region 1,318 MW

- Western Region 469 MW

- Northeastern region 423.6 MW

- Eastern Region 422 MW

- Northern region 177 MW

- Southern region 41.01 MW
