DIW and relevant agencies monitor the progress of case in Ratchaburi Province



On July 3, 2024, the Director-General of the Department of Industrial Works (DIW), along with the Ombudsman and representatives from DIW and relevant agencies, inspected areas affected by the operations of Wax Gabage Recycle Center Co., Ltd. in Rangbua Subdistrict, Chom Bueng District, Ratchaburi Province.


Then DIW was held a meeting with relevant agencies, including the Pollution Control Department, the Department of Groundwater Resources, the Ratchaburi Provincial Industry Office, the Ratchaburi Provincial Public Health Office, and other agencies. The meeting aimed to updates on the progress of resolving the issue, the progress of legal action against the operator, and the progress of claiming compensation for the disposal of industrial waste and chemical substance in the area, as well as environmental rehabilitation.


During the meeting, a proposal for the amendments of the Enhancement and Conservation of National Environmental Quality Act, B.E. 2535 (1992) was presented, due to the current act requires the victims to file the case by themselves, which may be unfair to the victims who cannot afford legal action. Additionally, the meeting discussed about the establishment of industry fund that request to place the collateral for managing the case caused by improper management of industrial waste and compensate pollution-related victims.
