EGAT sign MOU with Dept. of Lands and Thai Meteorological Dept. to exchange information

Updated: Jun 20, 2023

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) signed 2 Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) on data & information exchange. One is an MOU on Integrated Land Management Information System between Department of Lands (DOL) and EGAT on June 8, 2023, and another one is an MOU to exchange information on meteorology and hydrology between Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) and EGAT on June 13, 2023.

Cooperation under the MOU between DOL and EGAT is to exchange information through a Geographic Information System. This is expected to provide the DOL access to identify the land where EGAT’s power grid system is laid across. It also helps EGAT reduce the process of searching for information due to changing from paper documents to information systems on the Internet instead, such as land maps, owner of land or the person having the right to occupy the land within EGAT’s power grid system. EGAT would use the information for consideration of compensation payment to the landowners.[1]

While another cooperation between TMD and EGAT is to exchange information and knowledge on meteorology and hydrology. This is expected to help EGAT forecasting of power demand, planning of renewable energy generation, and water management of EGAT dams to be efficient and stable, resulting in reasonable electricity price for the public. Moreover, it will help enhance power system security as well as take care of the environment sustainably.[2]
