Questionnaire Survey
Objectives
The amount of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) generated in Thailand has been increasing year by year, raising concerns about the potential impacts of improper treatment and disposal on human health and the environment. The Thai Government has been working for many years to promote the environmentally sound management of WEEE and has conducted various studies and surveys to support this effort. As part of these initiatives, this survey is being conducted to collect information on consumer behavior related to end-of-life electrical and electronic equipment and to support the Government's further policy development and decision-making.
Data Utilization / Protection of Personal Information
All information provided through this survey will be handled anonymously and used solely for policy development and decision-making by the Thai Government. No personally identifiable information is requested in this questionnaire.
Target
（1）Respondents
Thai citizens who currently own, or have previously owned, at least two of the four types of electrical
and electronic equipment listed below.
（2）Items
4 types of WEEE, i,e., Air-conditioner, Refrigerator, Washing Machine and TV which the Royal
Thai Government considers as target.
Contents
The Questionnaire Survey consist of 3 parts as below
Part 1: Screening Questions for the 4 target electrical appliances
Part 2: General Information of the respondent
Part 3: Household ownership and management of non-functional / unused electrical appliances
this survey focuses on the 4 target appliances above that are currently "broken, damaged, or out of order"
OR "no longer in use," covering the following two scenarios:
Scenario 1 (Currently stored): Non-functional or unused target appliances currently stored in your household.
Scenario 2 (Previously disposed): Non-functional or unused target appliances that have already been sold, donated, or discarded.

WEEE
What is WEEE?
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) is defined as electrical or electronic equipment that is waste, including all components, sub-assemblies and consumables that are part of the equipment at the time the equipment becomes waste under the Basel Convention
WEEE in Thailand
Approx, 450 thousand tons of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment generated per year (2024) and 90 percent of it was collected by so called Informal Sector.
Introduction of the Project
The Project on Sustainable WEEE Management in Thailand was launched among Pollution Control Dept., Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Dept. of Industrial Works, Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of the Environment of Japan in 2024 with purpose of study the possibility to develop legal framework and system for WEEE management in Thailand.
2026, as the third year of the project, the project team are under implementation of various activities including this consumers’ behavior survey. Findings from the activities will be shared with stakeholders for further consideration in development of legal framework and system for WEEE management in Thailand.
Hazardous Substance
WEEE can contain a wide range of hazardous substances, such as Cd, Hg, Pb that may pose risks to human health and the environment.
