DIW strengthens Thai-Japan bilateral cooperation and opens a forum to exchange on E-waste management approaches in Thailand

On March 19, 2025, Mr. Sunthron Kewsawang, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Industrial Works, deliver the opening remarks at the technical consultation to exchange of information and experiences on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment management in Thailand, under Thai-Japan Bilateral Cooperation between Department of Industrial Works, Pollution Control Department, and the Ministry of the Environment, Japan, to promote and support on sustainable E-waste management and recycling, along with, Ms. Phanit Ratasuk, Director of the Hazardous Substances and Waste Management Division, Pollution Control Department, Ms. Nuchanat Suphansri, Scientist, Expert level, Industrial Waste Management Division, Ms. Yurie Osawa, 1st Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Thailand, Mr. Satoshi Sugimoto, Expert from EX Research Institute, the working group from Japan, and stakeholders including the Federation of Thai Industries, the Center of Excellence on Hazardous Substance and Waste Management, and representatives from relevant private sector, at the Century Park Hotel, Bangkok.

DIW continues to support the enhancement of E-waste management efficiency in Thailand and environmental activities under the Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) on industrial waste management between the Department of Industrial Works and the Environmental Regeneration and Material Cycles Bureau, Ministry of the Environment, Japan. This meeting served as a forum for exchanging knowledge and experiences regarding the management of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), covering legal framework, the development & operation of Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs), as well as technical support on management, collection, storage, transportation, and recycling of E-waste in Japan. This knowledge can be applied to develop proper management & recycling approaches. This is an important and challenging issue that requires collaborative efforts from all sectors to achieve success, and increase the circulation of electronic waste as raw materials in the supply chain according to the Circular Economy principle, leading to the preservation of environmental quality and public health
